i2c_smbus_read_word_data() must be used if the data is in I2C byte order 
(i.e. LSB first)

i2c_smbus_read_word_swapped() must be used if the data is NOT in I2C byte 
order (i.e. MSB first)

this has nothing to do with CPU byteorder; i2c_smbus_read_word_xxx() will 
take care to report the 16-bit value in native endianness
