http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=10574 ------- Comment #2 from ron.w@xxxxxx 2008-04-29 07:09 ------- First of all I have to correct my original statement: Suspend-to-Disk makes same noise in Linux. Only Suspend-to-RAM does not. In order to screen out possible hardware failure I performed complete SeaTools testing procedures, the hardware is 100% OK. I checked also with the Accoustic testing feature. Moreover I installed for testing purposes Windows XP, which was delivered with this notebook. So I can say now, this noise is defintively *not* normal on poweroff. Parking the heads and shutdown correctly makes a completely different sound (silent klick), mostly inaudible. Here is the requested dmesg-output: Initializing cgroup subsys cpuset Linux version 2.6.24-2.6.24.4.slh.5-sidux-686 (Debian 2.6.24-27) (s.l-h@xxxxxx) (gcc version 4.2.3 (Debian 4.2.3-3)) #1 SMP PREEMPT Fri Apr 11 22:17:21 UTC 2008 BIOS-provided physical RAM map: BIOS-e820: 0000000000000000 - 000000000009f800 (usable) BIOS-e820: 000000000009f800 - 00000000000a0000 (reserved) BIOS-e820: 00000000000dc000 - 00000000000e4000 (reserved) BIOS-e820: 00000000000e8000 - 0000000000100000 (reserved) BIOS-e820: 0000000000100000 - 000000001fe80000 (usable) BIOS-e820: 000000001fe80000 - 000000001fe91000 (ACPI data) BIOS-e820: 000000001fe91000 - 000000001ff00000 (ACPI NVS) BIOS-e820: 000000001ff00000 - 0000000020000000 (reserved) BIOS-e820: 00000000e0000000 - 00000000f0006000 (reserved) BIOS-e820: 00000000f0008000 - 00000000f000c000 (reserved) BIOS-e820: 00000000fed20000 - 00000000fed90000 (reserved) BIOS-e820: 00000000ff000000 - 0000000100000000 (reserved) 0MB HIGHMEM available. 510MB LOWMEM available.
