Hi everybody, I have encountered a problem when trying to use my Samsung SH-183A drive under Linux when it is connected to my VIA controller. When I try to boot kernel version 2.6.20-rc6, I get a long series of error messages and the the drive is dead. If I try to mount it I get the error message "device does not exist". I have also tried kernels version 2.6.18, 2.6.19.1 and they give the same result. If I connect the drive to my SiI 3114 controller and boot 2.6.20-rc6 the drive works perfectly. I also tried booting kernel version 2.6.17. It gives an error message and stalls for a while during boot, but the drive is working somewhat. I managed to read the contents of a cd a few days ago, but when I tried the same thing today my computer hung half way through. I haven't been able to play dvds. Any ideas? Attachments 1. dmesg from 2.6.20-rc6 2. dmesg from 2.6.17 3. output of lspci -nnvvv I'm not on this list so if you reply to this email please send a cc to me. Cheers, Nils
