My apologies for the length ahead of time. Per Tejun Heo's request, I have attached a dmesg with
#define ATA_DEBUG set in include/linux/libata.h

Looks like the dmesg buffer length ran past 16k, but I think the important parts are in there.

When I get home, I'll try Albert Lee's suggestion for enabling ATAPI_ENABLE_DMADIR
