Does the following mean that
1. something is wrong with my USB stick?
2. the signal I'm receiving is too weak?
3. support for this device is just not there yet?
4. not enough information supplied -> what should I try?

firmware dvb-usb-dib0700-03-pre1.fw
(500Mhz is a non-signal, 538Mhz is a known DVB-T signal)
the output of ./scan for all known DVB-T frequencies is the same as
for 538Mhz, and the output for all non-signals is the same as for
500Mhz

yes,?the?same?sad?situation?in?Linux?with?the?cards?from?ATI??(AVIVO
technology).

Also,?there's?not?interlace PAFF?support?in?MPlayer?(ffmpeg).

But?you?can??have a look on new  Extension HD/PCI card from
ReelMultimedia - with h264 hardware decoder from Micronas and with
hdmi output.
