Freecom DVB-T USB Stick 25451-rev.3 Problems

Hi,

I (disappointingly) just purchased one of these sticks, without realising there were quite so many problems with Linux-DVB. My bad. :-(

I seem to be having the same problem as everyone else, has a fix been released yet? I am running on 2.6.19.2 with drivers from a HG pull this morning.

I am using it with VDR-1.4.5.

When I insert the USB stick I see this: -

Feb 14 10:11:19 morfsta kernel: usb 1-5: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 6
Feb 14 10:11:19 morfsta kernel: usb 1-5: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
Feb 14 10:11:19 morfsta kernel: dvb-usb: found a 'WideView WT-220U PenType Receiver (Typhoon/Freecom)' in cold state, will try to load a firmware
Feb 14 10:11:19 morfsta kernel: dvb-usb: downloading firmware from file 'dvb-usb-wt220u-fc03.fw'
Feb 14 10:11:21 morfsta kernel: usb 1-5: USB disconnect, address 6
Feb 14 10:11:21 morfsta kernel: dvb-usb: generic DVB-USB module successfully deinitialized and disconnected.
Feb 14 10:11:23 morfsta kernel: usb 1-5: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 7
Feb 14 10:11:23 morfsta kernel: usb 1-5: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
Feb 14 10:11:23 morfsta kernel: dvb-usb: found a 'WideView WT-220U PenType Receiver (Typhoon/Freecom)' in warm state.
Feb 14 10:11:23 morfsta kernel: dvb-usb: will use the device's hardware PID filter (table count: 15).
Feb 14 10:11:23 morfsta kernel: DVB: registering new adapter (WideView WT-220U PenType Receiver (Typhoon/Freecom)).
Feb 14 10:11:23 morfsta kernel: DVB: registering frontend 3 (WideView USB DVB-T)...
Feb 14 10:11:23 morfsta kernel: input: IR-receiver inside an USB DVB receiver as /class/input/input4
Feb 14 10:11:23 morfsta kernel: dvb-usb: schedule remote query interval to 300 msecs.
Feb 14 10:11:23 morfsta kernel: dvb-usb: WideView WT-220U PenType Receiver (Typhoon/Freecom) successfully initialized and connected.
Feb 14 10:11:25 morfsta kernel: dvb-usb: recv bulk message failed: -110
Feb 14 10:11:33 morfsta kernel: drivers/usb/input/hid- core.c: timeout initializing reports
Feb 14 10:11:33 morfsta kernel: input: Digital TV Receiver Digital TV Receiver as /class/input/input5
Feb 14 10:11:33 morfsta kernel: input: USB HID v1.10 Keyboard [Digital TV Receiver Digital TV Receiver] on usb-0000:00: 10.3-5

Then when starting VDR it works fine and displays BBC One.

When I change channel to BBC Two (same MUX) I see :-

Feb 14 12:04:39 morfsta vdr: [7447] switching to channel 2
Feb 14 12:04:40 morfsta vdr: [7447] ERROR: /dev/dvb/adapter2/demux0: Too many open files
Feb 14 12:04:40 morfsta vdr: [7447] ERROR (dvbdevice.c,704): Too many open files
Feb 14 12:04:40 morfsta vdr: [7447] ERROR: can't set PID 610 on device 3

and no picture is displayed.

Then when switching to ITV (different MUX) I see: -

Feb 14 12:04:52 morfsta vdr: [7447] switching to channel 3
Feb 14 12:04:52 morfsta vdr: [7769] TS continuity error (2)
Feb 14 12:04:54 morfsta vdr: [7487] channel 16 (ITV2) event Wed 14.02.2007 11:10-12:30 'Judge Judy' status 4
Feb 14 12:04:54 morfsta vdr: [7487] channel 3 (ITV1) event Wed 14.02.2007 10:30-12:30 'This Morning' status 4
Feb 14 12:04:54 morfsta vdr: [7487] channel 4 (Channel 4) event Wed 14.02.2007 12:00-12:30 'News at Noon' status 4

and the picture appears.

Leaving it for any length of time and I eventually get (the widely reported): -

Feb 14 12:05:26 morfsta vdr: [7486] frontend 2 lost lock on channel 4, tp 762
Feb 14 12:05:26 morfsta kernel: dvb-usb: recv bulk message failed: -75
Feb 14 12:05:26 morfsta vdr: [7486] frontend 2 regained lock on channel 4, tp 762
Feb 14 12:05:26 morfsta kernel: dvb-usb: recv bulk message failed: -75
Feb 14 12:05:27 morfsta last message repeated 31 times
Feb 14 12:05:27 morfsta vdr: [7486] frontend 2 lost lock on channel 4, tp 762
Feb 14 12:05:27 morfsta kernel: dvb-usb: recv bulk message failed: -75
Feb 14 12:05:30 morfsta last message repeated 157 times
Feb 14 12:05:30 morfsta vdr: [7486] frontend 2 timed out while tuning to channel 4, tp 762
Feb 14 12:05:30 morfsta kernel: dvb-usb: recv bulk message failed: -75
Feb 14 12:05:35 morfsta last message repeated 338 times
Feb 14 12:05:35 morfsta vdr: [7486] frontend 2 regained lock on channel 4, tp 762

Here are my USB kernel options: -

CONFIG_USB_ZD1201=y
CONFIG_USB_ARCH_HAS_HCD=y
CONFIG_USB_ARCH_HAS_OHCI=y
CONFIG_USB_ARCH_HAS_EHCI=y
CONFIG_USB=y
CONFIG_USB_DEVICEFS=y
CONFIG_USB_BANDWIDTH=y
CONFIG_USB_EHCI_HCD=m
CONFIG_USB_EHCI_SPLIT_ISO=y
CONFIG_USB_EHCI_ROOT_HUB_TT=y
CONFIG_USB_EHCI_TT_NEWSCHED=y
CONFIG_USB_UHCI_HCD=m
CONFIG_USB_STORAGE=y
CONFIG_USB_LIBUSUAL=y
CONFIG_USB_HID=m
CONFIG_USB_HIDINPUT=y
CONFIG_USB_HIDDEV=y
CONFIG_USB_KBD=m
CONFIG_USB_MOUSE=m
CONFIG_USB_MON=y

I have toggled many of the experimental options (CONFIG_USB_BANDWIDTH, CONFIG_USB_DEVICEFS, CONFIG_USB_EHCI_SPLIT_ISO, CONFIG_USB_EHCI_ROOT_HUB_TT etc) and this doesn't appear to make any difference.

Could someone help us to fix this? I think a lot of people have this problem and it would be nice to address it. Given I seem to have bought an unsupported USB stick it is useless to me (I only use Linux/VDR) so I am happy to send it to a developer if necessary, or work with someone to get it fixed.

TIA,

Morfsta

Hi all,

I've searched this mailing list, and internet, and found that is
possible to have 6 dvb cards simultaneously with newer linux kerenls.
But is it possible to have more than 6 dvb cards? for example 8 dvb cards?

I've an industrial pc from icp electronics that lets me to install up to
13 pci cards. ( It has active backplane).

With the best wishes.

J. Anderson.
