Hm - I'm still using a 2.6.18 vanilla kernel without any problems. Such problems occur if the driver has not been compiled for the running kernel, or HG modules are mixed with modules from the kernel. Please make sure that you did not load v4l/dvb modules shipped with the kernel together with HG modules.
