I've tried your patch, and it it works to load the firmware on 2.6.18-rc4 with the v4l-dvb revision you suggest (checked out with the web interface, as I couldn't seem to make mercurial do it), but cannot get tuning to work. This is a bit odd, as I'd have thought all the tuning related code is to be found in the v4l-dvb tree? (so I wouldn't have thought your different kernel version mattered) I've tried the same firmware as Alistair Buxton used, and no luck there.
