That might make it worse. The latency timer sets how long a device may
keep the bus before it gives it away if another device is waiting. You
have increased the allocation for your PATA IDE controller - so now the
BT878 may have to wait longer.

That's a lot of stuff on one bus. Who made your motherboard?
(Firewire, USB, SATA, GbE, FastE, your two BT878s in the PCI slots,
your sound card, another IDE interface, and USB!) 

I thought an AMD64 board would be better distributed than that.
My Gigabyte is. (I think. I don't have any PCI cards it it.)
