Let me be the first to say that I stand corrected. Working with a
fresh tarball, now I'm not able to build it into the kernel. I don't
know where I got confused about that...

In any case, I still would prefer that the option is to make them
mutually exclusive, rather than forcing them to be built only as
modules.
