J1939/CAN based input device

Hi all,

I wont to use J1939 compatible joystick as standard linux input device.
Here are some hardware examples:

For example, I wont to play a Tux Racer game:

Right now, I have no idea where to start. Should it be a user space daemon or a kernel module?
