I used Xfce for my FreeBSD install and tested KDE using PcBSD. There
wasn't a difference to Linux, but it took several days to compile
everything from ports. I guess today there isn't the need to build
everything from ports. However some things, e.g. audio productions with
a desktop computer aren't the focus of FreeBSD. They care more about
security, by separating "world" from "user space", by providing jails.
Rt abilities are completely unimportant. JFTR pulseaudio nowadays
is part of FreeBSD too, it wasn't a while back.
