Yes it does. But it consumes way too much CPU
This is a problem with the firmware, not with the driver.
You could try getting docs for reading/writing the chip's firmware.

Thanks for the pointers. It's a pretty generic chip used in a lot of
different devices so there should be some documentation out there.
