Thank you very much Jörn and Hermann, it feels very good to read such
nice words from you whose appreciation I value especially highly.

The CAPS documentation, in case Al has been referring to it, has
indeed been written for an audience with some background in the field
(or willing to self-educate).  It's unfortunate this might turn some
people away but as you say, there are lots of other roads that will
take you to similar places.
