The friend has got Sequential gear, but I heard that the new equipment from Dave Smith does use CEM chips too. Regarding to bad MIDI for Sequential I recommend to contact http://www.winecountrysequential.com/ at least years ago they sold MIDI for the Prophet 5 etc. and a friend bought a lot of survival kids. Thy should be able to help.
