Yes, I only see 2 JACK capture ports but 7 or 8 outputs. I don't think I need AC3 or even stereo capture (although that would be a plus) to work as the real intent is to use this adapter to capture the output of a KORG D16 multitrack into JACK

I dug out my ol' SHARP CD/MD deck to use its optical out for a quick test this morning before work. I got rid of the experimental ALSA config, made sure that SPDIF In was enabled under ALSA mixer, connected my SHARP, started playing a CD and then started JACK but still I only got 2 capture ports (mic L and R). I then stopped JACK and fired up Audacity but that didn't seem to let me select SPDIF in as a capture source either.

I've not tried arecord yet but if I can't get the SPDIF In visible as a JACK capture port then the adapter is no use to me.

The s/pdif in signal you are using is stereo? It seems AC3 streams will
not work on these cards.
