Have you heard of Stefan Wolpe ? He's something of a hero to me.

Abstract 12-tone scores co-exist with diatonic songs written for Socialist workers causes. His example encourages me to write whatever I feel like writing (assuming I have the capability to do so). Wolpe's Form For Piano is a particular favorite.
