Hm, why not something like Hexter, a shell. You might have different modes, which would represent sort of a tree structure only shorter. I think in the old graphic, you could open some "parameter pages" for certain areas of the synthesis. OK, that level would be purely UI centered and just allow for different commands to be typed and e.g. shown in the help or whatever. But I think it would still be the fastest way to touch it all.
  But for the time being, that's all dreaming. :-)
