I've read lots of people agree that this is a great idea - I'm still trying to fully understand why because it seems that I DO need to stop Jack, or at least re-route it, if I want to open a web browser and watch some tutorial videos.

Hmm, I don't have to stop JACK in order to watch a YouTube video. Good old uncooperative Flash adamantly insists on playing through the lousy laptop speakers instead of the good speakers!
