Just one question while you're talking about distros. I would like to use my old Asus EEE as a synth/sampler/looper/... Is there any multimedia distro that is not based on Ubuntu? Because of EEE's limited resources I thought about putting Arch on it and then customizing it to my needs, but currently I don't have much time for that so a lightweight audio distro would be great.

AVLinux is based on Debian, not Ubuntu, and it focusses on being
lightweight. Dyne::bolic is that way also.

Ubuntu in turn is based on Debian.
