Making a copy of something and changing it is a primary mode of
artistic expression.

Consider, for example, the following from the "Fine arts":
(1) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/L.H.O.O.Q.
(2) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andy_Warhol#1960s

Or "sampling" in old-school hip hop. Or DJing and turntablism.
