on debian you can also get it with `apt-get install youtube-dl`.
FWIW, there's also nicovideo-dl and metacafe-dl available on debian.

For those being more pragmatic than idealistic: flash works just fine
with a jackplug in asoundrc: http://rg42.org/wiki/qjackctl_dbus#asoundrc
