Tried it on openSUSE 11.0 :

/home/peder> sox --version
sox: SoX v14.1.0

/home/peder> soxi jack_capture_01.wav
soxi wav: wave header missing FmtExt chunk

Input File : 'jack_capture_01.wav'
Channels : 2
Sample Rate : 44100
Precision : 24-bit
Duration : 00:55.29 = 2438144 samples = 4146.5 CDDA sectors
Sample Encoding: 32-bit Floating Point PCM

/home/peder> sox jack_capture_01.wav outfile.l.wav remix 1
sox wav: wave header missing FmtExt chunk

/home/peder> soxi outfile.l.wav

Input File : 'outfile.l.wav'
Channels : 1
Sample Rate : 44100
Precision : 24-bit
Duration : 00:55.29 = 2438144 samples = 4146.5 CDDA sectors
Sample Encoding: 32-bit Floating Point PCM

And since 14.3 >> 14.1 >> 14.0.1 I call it "bug".

As long as the result is satisfactory, the means by which we get there
is irrelevant.

But, before claiming the sky is falling and the world as we know it
will seize to exist, you really should try upgrading to the latest
version first :)
