I would like to thank everyone for their help and suggestions of and on list. The method I've settled on is to use Soundmanager http://www.schillmania.com/projects/soundmanager2/ This gives both the flexibility I want and simplicity of calling from the main code. I am able to create a pretty minimalist icon and embed it in css resulting in one line entries for each song, with title download and play options. Although very flexible, the documentation for Soundmanager is rather confusing, and it has taken me about half a day to work out exactly how to use it, so it will be a while before I can proudly show off a new site! -- Will J Godfrey http://www.musically.me.uk Say you have a poem and I have a tune.
