I really like the Delta cards, but syncing four 44s may be a bit of a
challenge.

If you can swing it, I highly recommend going with 2 Delta
1010s.  You'll get the 16 channels of I/O, using only 2 PCI cards,
plus the breakouts will be easily accessible in 2 rackmountable
units.  Syncing the 1010s is pretty straightforward, you'll just need
one S/PDIF cable to connect the 2 cards.  Details on the configuration
