Security vulnerabilities get noticed, fixed, and distributed. If you find a tool with no security fixes these days, you begin to worry about whether anybody is noticing the vulnerabilities that need fixing. On the other hand, truly paranoid security people don't install these tools on their most trusted systems. For a musician's computer, if you can afford it then use a unit totally separate to your regular computer, and don't do things on it that have a security risk impact ... like online banking or purchasing.
