Hi, thank you all for your answers.

So is this 2496 JACK compatible? Still don't know what kind of microphones i should use for voice recording. What software should i use to record and the best distro for it?

Thanks!

if you want 4 inputs you might need the 1010 or similar but stay away from the Audiophile 192, it is not supported. I plug a cheap Behringer mixer into the stereo ins of the 2496 to get more inputs.
Dunno about microphones!

Soundcraft have two new mixers called Compact4 and Compact10.

The 4 has 2 mic ins and 2 stereo line ins, while the 10 has 4 mic an 6 line. IMO they are much better than the behringer in design, features, flexibility and build quality. The channels have a record enable button so you don't accidentally record unwanted channels (or noise). Separate mix and monitor and record outs. Separate artist and engineer headphone outs. And much better mic pres. Well worth the few extra bucks. ($149 for Compact4, $249 for Compact10 at one place I checked)

I have the Compact4 and Audiophile 2496 and  can highly recommend.
