I now have simplesysexxer (patched) working fine - kudos to Raphaël for assistance with this.
I did get one oddity where the initial dump using simplesysexxer differed from the one I had done using amidi, but a couple of follow-up tests all came out the same.  Don't know if it was because I had only just booted the MKS70 or what.
