go to qjacktl's setup dialog, click on "Options" at the top of it, make
sure that "Auto refresh patchbay" is disabled. Its a long shot but there
have been other people who had this enabled with the same problems as
you have described.

btw, don't ever ask your professor about this sort of thing.
