Now I found BOSS' SP-303 (Dr. Sample). Can this be connected to
Linux for the sample and pattern upload/download? Does any
Linux software recognize the formats used by this gear?
yes definitely the easiest way to do it is to use the Smart Media card slot (up to 64mb) if you have a card reader for your linux box. you could mess with/create the samples in whatever software you want and then save it to a SM card, plug it into the sp-303 and you're set.
