To get the final mono, I have to invert one of the channels and mix it
with the other. This way all the errors on the signal get canceled.
From what you've described, wouldn't the signal get cancelled too?
No. The signal in xlr goes in two wires and the other is inverted and thus
any interference to the cable is canceled when the inverted signal is
inverted again and mixed with the other.
