To be cool means not to depend on conventions and expectations and most of all verdicts of any type of cultural defined group. (To be civilized, polite, respectful towards others is a different matter - one can be independent whithout answering "fuck you" if somone says "good morning") I come from the Metal-Scene and I never had the slightest problem with telling everybody, that I like some depeche mode recordings and that I admire the Work of Tom Waits and Glenn Gould and that I am a huge fan of PJ Harvey and anybody, who dared to critcize me, because I like stuff that is not "approved" as Metal I consider being as uncool as my Electronics-Teacher back in the communist East-Germany. Being not much more then a obeying member of a group is as uncool as I can think of. Regarding your thoughts of free software and its impact on the artistic process and attitude I completely agree with you - free art - free music - - free software. > > I love you guys.
