Both Germany and France have a rather efficient high-speed train system, both also spreading out to Belgium (Brussels and/or Antwerp). These are not the cheapest, but there are special period tickets etc. that you should look out for. There is also number of low- cost airlines operating over most of Europe, but watch out for the extra costs.
