With some success using VSTs (non-free so will not be distributed through Debian and the like but ...), how about ASIO. Trying to run Tracktion with wine show that asio drivers can be found, in any event (this program loaded a zillion VSTs but would not play using the DX sound output through wine, its dialog boxes were not visible but were "active"). Anyone know of a jackass-io or alsasio-lorraine being played with somewhere out there?
