Emacs is an extensible computing environment. It can be anything cause
you can run whatever code you want in this environment. I really use
it for everything.

It's even my default shell so I never leave emacs;). 

Besides that, I use it for coding, mail, news, rss, telnet, file
manager (sample browser f.ex), p2p, web browser, audio synthesis and
pattern editor, irc, jabber.

jack.el, om.el and midi dumping are on the agenda.

You can maybe think of it as "plugins" that extend your environment to
greater capabilities.

The editing capabilities of emacs are really just your arms and legs to
move in this environment;).
