I say. That was the problem. I updated to (gentoo) 2.6.10-r6 and the
massive XRUNs went away. Many thanks.

Yepp. Did that. It doesn't look promising for those that are hit by
this. I'm not sure if I am. But I'll surely be keeping an eye on
it. The problem is, as you say, to actually determine if it's
ACPI/SMM-related.
