I believe they are used all the time in studios as I've > always seen them around since then. that's not a big deal. count basie had about a dozen of those back in the mid-fifties, and everyone in the band sounded in tune. ellington also had many of those, and audio quantizers too, just listen to the version of "solitude" he made in 1957 for columbia. and that's nothing, parker and gillespie had each an autotuner, an audio quantizer AND and a real-time time-compressor, that's how they recorded "ko ko" in perfect unisons at breakneck speed in 1945. most people didn't know that. --
