Re: Adjusting Pipewire Jack Buffer Size

I'm not sure if the list saw it, but Wim Taymans reached out with a documentation page (https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/pipewire/pipewire/-/wikis/Guide-JACK#set-buffersize) showing this command:

pw-metadata -n settings 0 clock.force-quantum <buffer size>

And you're absolutely right Erik, you can adjust while programs are running, what is this black magic!?!?!? This is insane, we are living in the future. And, they don't have to be multiples of 32, how in the world does this even work?!

And you can also do:

pw-metadata -n settings 0 clock.force-quantum 0

to reset to pipewire's defaults.

Everyone, this is insane! Thank you to everyone who worked on pipewire, I can't believe we have this kind of functionality.

PS, jack_bufsize is adjustable at runtime amazingly enough!

If you have the `jack_` type tools installed, you can use `jack_bufsize` to change the buffer size with pipewire as well. I'm using version 1.0.3 of pipewire on arch linux but I haven't tested it with other versions.

Hello all,

Do any pipewire users here know of a way to adjust the buffer for pipewire for jack applications? Ideally, I'm looking for something that is a gui app or client command that can be adjusted on the fly, or before loading an application. I want to try to reduce latency for a performance and pipewire has been working great otherwise.

My system is the latest universalblue fedora sericea and I am using a pro-audio interface.
