Hi Fons,

possibly the USB hardware in the two laptops is different. Since lsusb
picks the device up the next step would maybe to check if udev is
creating the right device nodes.

Try running

sudo udevadm monitor

on both devices and see if there are significant differences..

versions, they are the same. In fact the two Linux installations should
be identical, both had a full update before I shipped to two laptops
