I don't think it's gated. The main production happened about a year ago.
I think it's just heavily compressed with a release time around 70-80ms,
not as clean as gating it on top, but it works. :)

Yes, the lead vocals are recorded by Beccy and you're the second person
to suggest more "fatness" in the verses. I agree, but chorus didn't work
and alas her schedule is far too full, so she wouldn't be able to double
her own lines. That would have been the best solution, even with some
accenting.

Many thanks. Yes that was me. I originally sang the whole song. Let's
put this way: Beccy singing it was a blessing and the difference between
lowgrade and top notch. My voice did work for the backings, because I
trippled every line, averaging out the errors. :)

It stars Csound for the fantyastic gnarly FM bass and the kicking drums!
Yoshimi adds a shiny topping with stabs, some bass layering and pad work.
Fluidsynth lays the groundwork with the main e-bass and LinuxSampler fills
the gaps. The rest is outboard equipment and a lot of vocal tracks.
