Re: sound with Scarlett 3rd Gen device?

On the way to a solution:

The Scarlett is a USB 2.0 device. The USB ports on my laptop are 3.0. I tried the Scarlet on my desktop, first using the blue port (USB 3.0) and had no success. Later trying a non-coloured port (2.0?)and not before re-configuring the Scarlett in Windows (ie. simple connecting it), I got audio in and out to work. There are some audio glitches at both conservative and short latencies in Jack, but i'll worry about that later.

Can someone suggest please what I can do to get the USB 3.0 ports on the laptop to work with the USB 2.0 Scarlett? I checked the Bios and there doesn't seem to be a way to downgrade any of the ports. A software solution? I'm running Ubuntu 19.04.

Thanks,

Iain

Thanks Peter. I think I already got it out of MSD mode in Windows and it's working well there in Pd, Ardour, SuperCollider, etc. I tried the below just now in Linux but it didn't help, unfortunately.

Dear Linux audio people,

I have a Scarlett 18i20 3rd Gen interface which I'm trying to use on a recent Samsung laptop with Ubuntu 19.04.

The 3rd gen devices are apparently shipped in non-functional "MSD" mode,
You might be interested in < https://linuxmusicians.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=18862&start=75 >. The thread is about the 2nd Gen, but there is a comment on how to get the 3rd Gen. out of the "MSD" mode:

FWIW, the manual says you can take it out of MSD mode without running FC:      "Initially, when in MSD mode, the interface will function at sample rates up to 48 kHz."      "In order to force your Scarlett 18i20 out of MSD mode without first registering it,      hold down the 1-4 48V button while disconnecting and reconnecting the USB cable, and
then continue to hold the button down for a further five seconds."

Good luck,
best regards,
Peter
