here my solution I used which solved mx problems for the Christmas Party
except that I used one Windows program under wine.
But I did not have time enough to try the solution proposed by Roger.
Used equipment:
iBook 13" 2GB RAM with Linux MINT 17 xfce
Used SW:
Clementine 1.3.1 Player with Remote control via Android App.
FooBar2000 1.3.13 (under wine)
Database creation:
simply with "ls -1 > dbfile" and then imported into Libre Office Calc,
preprocessed and exported with field separator "#".
With some scripts (.SH and AWK) I could search for Titles, Artists and
word combinations very quickly and also prepare automatically the xml
playlists for Clementine (the .xpsf format is understand also by iTunes
and other famous players).
Equal volume:
To have an almost equal volume while playing the songs I made a scan
with FooBar2000 and wrote back into the mp3 tags the "replayGain values".
Clementine, adjust properties:
Dont forget to activate in Clementine remote Control and also use of the
replay gain values for each track.
Summary:
During the Event all nessecary features worked well. The volume was
almost the same. No adjustment during Playback was necessary.
Clementine is very easy to handle with playlists also if they are
created in the background while playing. There is no need to import the
music in advance. No big diskspace necessary.
Also the remote control apllication worked fine.
Not very necessary on that list to know but Clementine works in the same
way on Windows too.

As I mentioned earlier, DeaDBeeF with the 2 plugins works well and is
very similar to Foobar2000. It's not in Debian repos but the .deb on the
website works perfectly.
mp3gain has been dropped from Debian (still available from Wheezy repo),
but python-rgain is its replacement.
My favourite tool for replaygain is SoundKonverter which can process any
number of files in one set, but may need a few KDE dependencies. It also
depends on mp3gain but works if you manually install the Wheezy version.

I have a windows box too but I want to do the whole job on my Linux
