OK, got it working, used .~/asoundrc
pcm_slave.sl3 {
   pcm "plughw:1,0"
   channels 2
   rate 44100
}

pcm.complex_convert {
   type plug
   format S16_LE
   slave sl3
}
And the darkice.cfg input section is

[input]
device          = plughw:1,0    # Alsa soundcard device for the audio input (barenger)
sampleRate      = 44100     # sample rate in Hz. try 11025, 22050 or 44100
bitsPerSample   = 16
channel         = 2         # channels. 1 = mono, 2 = stereo

OK, just tried that

running with darkice.

so it *should* work...

could you try pls:

	device          = plughw:0
or
	device          = plughw:1

instead?

I had to use this instead of the
	device          = hw:0,0

If that did not help, i would try to disable realtime for first until it is
working (just as a shot)...
