(hint hint) i could be wrong(!) but isnt it quite simple (compared to all the great work you have already done)? for the case of slaving to external midi: With a drum machine (unlike a continuous audio recorder such as Ardour or Rosegarden), it is presumably not so important to 'lock' the tempo to the master, and you could just respond imediately to inconing midi clock messages (for example). In the case of internal alsa midi messages, the jitter would hopefully be quite low, making a phase locked loop type filter unnecessary. so is that hopelessly niave? :-) cheers -- Tim Orford
