Hi Jack, That's a really long e-mail to start with.. Some of your findings are correct: 1. Coretemp module does not control fan speed. It reports only CPU temperature. Nothing inside /sys/class/thermal/ reports CPU temperature. temp2_max is not writeable. What does your temp2_crit report ? 2. trip_point_0_temp is not writeable...But recently there are patches that make it writeable. If you are interested, please give this patch here, a try: http://www.spinics.net/lists/linux-pm/msg27925.html 3. Could you please post the output of all cooling_device?/type interfaces here ? Thanks, Durga > -----Original Message----- > From: linux-acpi-owner@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:linux-acpi- > owner@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Jack Kelly > Sent: Monday, September 24, 2012 2:43 PM > To: linux-acpi@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx > Subject: HP laptop: fan off until CPU temp near 105 degrees C > > Dear Linux ACPI list, > > I am having a serious problem with the control of the CPU fan on my HP > ProBook 6450b laptop and it has been suggested to me that this may be > a Linux ACPI issue.
