Here are some of the links I've come across:

--Rask Lambertsens's 'ia16' gcc target

http://git.etherboot.org/?p=people/dverkamp/gcc.git;a=shortlog
--Daniel Verkamp's 'i86' gcc target.
(notice 2007-07-15	Daniel Verkamp	import 8086 backend
by D.J. Delorie from delorie.com ...) Are these 2
working on 8086 tagets independantly?? Notice that H.
Peter Anvin has commits on this one(!).

I found a mention of #elks channel on
irc.freenode.net in an lkml archive. Never done IRC,
so don't know if this is true or not.

I think that's a good list. These were all found just
doing simple google and yahoo searches on elks linux
and linux 8086.
