Dear Jacques and Marvin, Thank you for your emails. I checked lsmod first and I could see that snd-via82xx-modem was in. Also Martian_dev was not in. I then blacklisted: snd-via82xx-modem and snd-atiixp-modem as instructed by MarvS, retested and got the same result i.e. invalid dial command and disconnected. As you can see below Martian_dev came in after the blacklisting. I can only see one physical modem (Agere in PCI slot) in the PC. The board does not appear to have a telephone connector at all. The modem works fine if I start the PC into Windows. No Jacques I did not edit the dmesg text file - just as created by ScanModem!
