Put an ordinary phone on your test line, and verify that it has a dialtone.
However we have predominantly had failure reports with the 0x10573057 chipset.
If you need FAX for commercial purposes, it would best to but a
Controller Chipset modem.
The "software" modems are really cheap consumer devices.
