Sadly this is an older modem, and the only potential supplier, Linuxant
http://www.linuxant.com/drivers/hcf/full/downloads.php
is evidently not providing resources for x86_64 processors.
If you want to use this modem, you will have to reinstall Ubuntu Linux
using the x86, 32 bit variant.
