Ray,

For LoginName, try using:
   ukf.net/chandler5@xxxxxxx

This is necessary for some IPs using the CHAP authentication protocol
This is most likely not a driver problem, only an authenication issue

Note that gnome-ppp is only a graphical front end to wvdial, and you
must run its setup to a write a hidden .wvdialconf
It does not use  /etc/wvdial.conf
